Media Use in Trying Times

After having my full-time position "eliminated", I wanted to share some helpful tips I picked up over the years and recently:
  • Use your local library resources…and support them if they’re getting their budget cut
  • Utilize social networking websites (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) to connect with family, friends and familiar faces. If they ask for help, then have a list ready (give me feedback on my portfolio pieces, look at my resume, keep your eye open for positions in my field, etc.).
  • Let them know your situation and stick with the basics. Don’t make every opportunity a plug for yourself. Help non-profits and community programs (like The Salvation Army, etc.).
  • Workout!…in any way you can and in what you enjoy the most!
  • Read like you’re back in school or starting your own school.
  • Research your professional field and personal interests then develop your skills and learn about new ones. You won't be able to get through everything, but just be aware of topics, movements and elements employers seek.
  • Explore music , food, and other interests. Who knows? You may find the beginnings of a new career.
  • Direct yourself properly. Seek God and His plan for your life.
  • Reflect on past experiences and talents. Look through any dairies, school notes, journals or other life works and think about your life experiences good and bad. Scribe your thoughts.
